Service To School Announces new CEO and COO

Non-profit that helps transitioning military veterans get into top colleges will be led by two female veterans

NEW YORK, NY, April 2018. Service to School has announced the appointment of Andrea N. Goldstein as Chief Executive Officer to lead the non-profit that helps military veterans who are transitioning into higher education.

Ms. Goldstein served on active duty in the US Navy from 2009 to 2016 as an intelligence officer, deploying in East Asia and the Middle East in expeditionary and special operations missions. She currently serves as a Navy Reservist. She is also an expert in the field of security sector reform and reintegration after military service, and has consulted for senior defense officials, state and federal lawmakers, and major national-security think tanks. She was a founding contributor to the veterans’ news and culture blog Task & Purpose, where she has written extensively about retention, gender, and military culture and policy. Her work has also been featured in the US Naval Institute’s Proceedings, Fletcher Forum of World Affairs, War Horse, Business Insider, and various peer-reviewed professional journals.

Ms. Goldstein herself participated in Service to School’s program when she applied to graduate school and has served as a mentor to undergraduate applicants since 2016. She is a Pat Tillman Scholar and will graduate on May 20th from the Fletcher School at Tufts University with a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy. She previously earned a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Chicago.

Service to School also announces the promotion of Christine Schwartz to Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Schwartz is a former Army officer and has worked in the technology sector at start-ups and non-profits. She specializes in process improvement, organizational strategy, and talent management. Christine earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management from Virginia Tech and holds a Master’s Certificate in Applied Intelligence from Mercyhurst University. Ms. Schwartz will work in tandem with the CEO to increase the number of transitioning veterans the organization serves and to expand the organization’s partnerships with four-year colleges to help schools improve their pipeline of veteran applicants.

The board of directors thanks outgoing interim CEO Tim Hsia for his service over the last year. Mr. Hsia is one of the founders of Service to School and will remain on the board. “Under Tim Hsia’s selfless leadership, Service to School has become the premier organization helping enlisted veterans transition from the military to top-tier academic programs. His tireless work and dedication to the mission have primed Service to School for incredible growth in the coming years,” adds Khalil Tawil, a fellow board member and co-founder.

Service to School (S2S) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides free college-application counseling to military veterans. Its goal is to help veterans gain admission to the best universities possible and to help them maximize their GI Bill benefits.
