Announcing Service to School's New CEO

Service to School (S2S) and its board of directors is pleased to announce that it has appointed Alexander (Alec) Emmert as CEO effective March 1, 2023.

A former nuclear submarine officer and Wharton MBA, Alec has been a valued member of the Service to School team for the past eight years serving in a volunteer capacity as both an Undergraduate and MBA Ambassador. Most recently, he worked as a consultant with McKinsey&Co where he focused on private equity and advanced industries. Alec succeeds Christine Schwartz, who has led Service to School since 2017 and who will remain dedicated to the organization’s mission by joining its board of directors. "It is impossible to overstate what Christine has meant to Service to School. When she started six years ago we were serving 1,000 veterans a year and had 12 school partners. Fast forward to today and we serve over 3,000 Veterans and have 28 school partners. During her tenure she has helped more than 8,000 veterans achieve their educational goals, all while holding down the fort as a military spouse, executing four household moves, and being a mom of three," said President of the Board, Augusto Giacoman.

With Christine’s departure, Alec will assume the role of CEO bringing with him his perspectives as both an S2S Applicant and an Ambassador as well as his experience as the President of the Wharton Veterans Club. “I have seen the impact that Service to School has had in transforming so many of my fellow Veterans’ lives firsthand. I could not have asked for a better role than building on the work Christine and the team have done to grow the organization and further its impact,” stated Alec.

Alec’s work experience includes eight years of active duty service in the U.S. Navy with multiple overseas deployments to the Middle East and Europe. He is currently serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and recently returned from a short-term assignment to European theater to support the NATO response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
